The first annual CMS Reading Challenge is off to a great start! There were over 35 entries for the first week's drawing.
The winners for Week 1 are:
Congratulation Cameryn Lynch and Mrs. Dahl! Cameryn won a Chick-fil-a prize pack with a gift card and a new book. Ms. Dahl won a Chick-fil-a prize pack and Nom Noms gift card.
Remember, each week you can enter up to 5 books, but if you do a video review you can earn an extra entry per book. That doubles your chances to win from 5 to 10! Follow this link to watch reviews or create your own book review: https://flipgrid.com/7639c8
Every book you read accumulates for the grand prize drawing, so keep those entries coming! Here is the link to enter the contest: gg.gg/cms-fall
This year has just been flying by and the learning commons is busier than ever! There are a few important events coming up, which I have listed here. Please read below to find out more about our 1st Annual CMS Reading Challenge, Read-In Day, and Book Fair.
1st Annual CMS Reading Challenge
This year, CMS will be hosting it's first reading challenge! Each week, for five weeks leading up to the Book Fair, students and teachers can enter to win prizes for every chapter book they read (up to 5 books per week). Each week's contest will begin on Monday morning and last through the next Sunday night. Weekly prizes for students include gift cards to Nom Noms and Chick-fil-a, as well as new books. Weekly teacher prizes include gift cards to Nom Noms and Starbucks, and new books, too. At the end of the challenge, on December 11, 2017, a grand prize winner will be drawn from all of the student and teacher entries. The grand prize for students is a Kindle Fire and the grand prize for teachers is a gift card to Rick's Chophouse and an Amazon Echo Dot!
To enter, all you have to do is scan the QR code on the poster (or use the link) to review the books you read. It's really that simple! For an extra entry for each book you read, you can record a review on the learning commons' book review FlipGrid (found HERE).
There will be one student and teacher winner weekly, plus one ultimate grand prize student and teacher winner at the very end! Let Mrs. Scott or your ELAR teacher know if you have any questions!
Read-In Day Fall 2017
Read-In Day is a McKinney ISD tradition that happens twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. This fall's Read-In Day is Friday, November 17. Students can wear school appropriate pajamas and are encouraged to read a book in their classes. Help us promote the joy of reading by wearing your PJ's and participating in Read-In Day!
Teachers will also be competing against each other in a door decorating contest for Read-In Day! Teachers will pick their favorite book and decorate their door to match for a chance to win some awesome prizes!
Book Fair will take place December 4-8. More information will be coming as the time gets closer.
