Last night five of our CMS students competed against ten other middle schoolers from across the district in the MISD Middle School District Poetry Slam. Although CMS did not come out as the top team, two of our amazing poets won 2nd and 3rd place. Congratulations to all our winners! Mrs. Scott is incredibly proud of all the poets for expressing themselves and having the bravery to stand up and perform their poems in front of a live audience! Great job, Cowboys!
Last night we hosted our annual CMS Poetry Slam. Mr. Michael Guinn, who is a Poetry Slam Master, hosted workshops the past few weeks for our 6th and 7th graders to introduce them to the art of Slam Poetry. Our 8th graders worked with Mike extensively this past fall. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful Slam Master, who cares so deeply about the art and form of slam poetry.
We had seventeen students compete last night. These students and their families showed up despite the rain and cold temperatures, and packed the library with an amazing amount of energy. Even with the issue of our microphone system being out of order, each student performed an amazing original piece of poetry.
The top five poets (plus two alternates) will move on to compete next week at the McKinney ISD Middle School Poetry Slam on Monday, February 26th at 6:30 PM in the CMS Library.
From left to right, the winners are: Delaney Gullickson (Alternate), Ashlyn Bryson (4th Place), Sophia Ross (5th Place), Emma Dillon (2nd Place), Ciara Sutherland (3rd Place), Leilani Benitez (1st Place), and Jeremiah Heyman (alternate).
We are so proud of all of our Cowboy Poets! Great job guys!
